Uganda’s coffee sector boom: Don’t go for the boom; go for the crop!
By Farmlife Agro. May 27, 2024
Uganda is one of Africa’s largest coffee producers and is also now among the top 10 coffee producers in the world. Uganda’s coffee sector is now booming with producers and dealers enjoying record prices.
This has attracted a lot of attention especially from non-traditional coffee producing categories like the middle-class and other business-savvy categories who are now looking to board the coffee ship to prosperity. This exodus into coffee production is good for the long term not for the short term. If you have lived long enough, you must be pretty aware that these booms and then inevitable bursts are here to stay.
But for decades, the coffee sub-sector has proved to be agriculture’s blue-chip stocks. Business men, whether in or planning to join in, with a long-term investment bet on the coffee sector will no-doubt enjoy its well-established status in the global commodities market.
Overall, with the new interest in the coffee sub-sector by non-traditional coffee enthusiasts, coffee will reestablish itself as one of Uganda’s most important economic pillars. And Uganda’s economy will, no doubt, be the ultimate winner from this trend.
